A Series of 5 Mixed Media :
natural materials and plastic
IN A MERGE (2016)
This collection of mixed-media painting and collage employs the use of reused product packages, mainly of plastic carrier bags. The artwork combines artificial and natural materials as an encounter of consumerism and naturalism.
“ I see it’s visual images of two reflections. One is that our contemporary living is in a merge and in momentum of extreme materialism and the psychological need of experiencing nature. The other view is the works reflect environmental situations, which I wish it could more or less bring an awareness in protecting the environment.“
I looked at abstraction and realism, experimenting between object installation and on-canvas painting. To me, there is a sense of sublime on the plains of attached layers of white plastic bag in which I am interested. Different types of plastic provide different qualities of white, translucency, and layering of texture, which to me, respond to a painterly experience. The artworks integrate natural and imitated natural substances to synthetic materials and paints. It includes chemical crystallization to bring in traces of environmental and geological change.
IN A MERGE was a part of group exhibition I Knew Who I Was at Free Space gallery.
